Long time readers will note that it’s rare that I dedicate an entire article to a 58mm model. It’s not that 58mm models aren’t important- after all a Victorinox Classic is on permanent display in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, it’s got more to do with my own fairly slight interest in them. For the most part, few 58mm models have ever really caught my attention unless there was something fancy on the scales like the Canadian Flag Classic or the VSAKCS Membership Classic.

In this case though, this is one of the few 58mm models that I had really been after, and thought I’d lost in one of my great 58mm purges- I have on occasion boxed up the 58’s that seem to collect in the bottom of my drawer and send them off to people who are more interested in them than I am, and I assumed it was sent off to someone and lost forever. Then, a month or so ago, while looking for something else entirely, I just happened to come across my rare little Victorinox Stylus.

There are a couple of different variations of the Stylus, although this is the only one of its type I’ve ever encountered, and as a SmartPhone user (and PDA user before that!) I find that a stylus can be a pretty handy thing to have.

This Stylus is based on the Classic SD in that it has a nail file with screwdriver tip, scissors and a small blade, tweezers and a lanyard ring- the difference is that instead of a toothpick it has a removable stylus, similar to the removable pens found on some 91mm models. Unlike the pens found on the other models, this one has a plastic tip for poking at touch screens without causing them damage or leaving marks.

One may think that this model is a mod job or some other kind of bizarre assembly that someone made to suit their needs and somehow ended up in my possession- given that the slot the stylus slides into is somewhat slimmer than the toothpick slot on a standard Classic, I am led to believe this was designed this way.

The other, more common Stylus model is actually a variant of the Signature model, which has the retractable pen or stylus, depending of course on the model. I have had this model in the past as well, but it would appear that I did indeed give all of those ones away, and as a result have none to use in any comparison photos.
